There are only a few days till I leave for a month trip to Sri Lanka, and it is time to start packing my toiletries. The worst part of the packing in my opinion. All those plastic bottles of liquid stuff is a total nightmare! Not only does all these bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, face lotion, eye cream, shower gel, facial cleaner ++ fill up my bag and make it heavy. But there is always a huge chance that they will leak during my flights making my toiletries and in the worst case the rest of my stuff a total mess when I finally arrive in Colombo.

Guess what; I have found a solution; solid shampoo from Lush! I first tried their solid shampoo bar back in 2014 after a friend of mine recommended it, and I have been addicted to it ever since. It is simply genius and makes my hair feel just as fresh, clean, and moisture as a regular liquid shampoo does.

After falling in love with the Lush shampoo bar, I got tempted to try out some of their other products. Some I did not like, and some I like so much that they have continued to stay with me on my travels and I buy them over and over again.

Lush products I have thoroughly tested:

1. Jumping Juniper Shampoo Bar

Lush Jumping Juniper Shampoo Bar

Lush have many shampoo bars to choose from in their range. My first shampoo bar was the purple Jumping Juniper which I bought in Kyoto and used for six months while traveling through South-East Asia and Japan. It works perfectly for my hair as I sometimes have a bit oily hair. The Jumping Juniper also smells deliciously of lavender, lime, and rosemary.

Make sure also to buy the Shampoo Bar Travel Tin, a small round tin box where the shampoo bar fits perfectly. Let the shampoo bar dry thoroughly before you put it in the box. I once did not have time to let it dry, and it was almost impossible to get it out the next time I wanted to use it. I had to use a scissor to break the shampoo bar out of the box which resulted in the bar dividing into two pieces. 🙁

2. American Cream conditioner

After loving the Lush`shampoo bar so much, I figured out that I had to try their conditioners too and my chose fell on the American Cream.

I gave it a shot, and I really really REALLY wanted to like the conditioner as much as I love the shampoo, but unfortunately no. It just did not give my hair anything, no extra shine or moisture. And to tell you the truth, the vanilla scent started getting on my nerves! So after a few months of testing it out, I had to get rid of the whole bottle.

I plan to try out the Big Solid Conditioner next when my Godiva Shampoo + Conditioner Bar runs out.

3. Godiva Shampoo + Conditioner Bar

Lush Godiva Shampoo Bar

Since I did not fell head over heels in love with Lush conditioner, I decided to try out their combined shampoo and conditioner bar, the yellow Godiva bar. I was a bit worried that it would make my hair greasy and heavy, but it works perfectly on my hair. And the smell, aaaaagh, the smell is heavenly good! My hair gets very shiny from this bar. And who does not love 2-in-1-products when they work?!

I now have colored my hair dark red, and the color fades away a bit too quickly with this Godiva bar. So next time I will try the Copperhead bar that is more gentle and is made with henna.

4. Solid Perfume

Perfume is always a pain in the ass when traveling as those glass bottles often break or leak in my handbag or toiletries. I love perfume, but not all over my handbag! So when I saw that Lush had developed solid perfume, I simply had to go for it.

I chose the Vanillary, which smelled delicious from the can in the store. I love vanilla! However, after I had bought it and put it on my skin, it smelled awful! It seemed like the smell got more and more intense and artificial as the hours went by.

Also, the perfume is like a lip balm in texture, and it does not soak into the skin at all making the skin feeling sticky.

Solid perfume is such a good idea, and maybe I have not found the right one as I`m sure more brands are making solid perfumes. For now, I think I will stick to liquid scents. At the moment I use the new fragrance from Guerlain, Mon Guerlain, featured by Angelina Jolie. It smells delicious!

5. Ultrabland Facial Cleanser

Lush Ultrabland Facial Cleanser

Lush Ultrabland Facial Cleanser

Over the years I have searched a lot for the perfect all-purpose facial cleanser that both cleans away mascara as well as foundation, sun powder, and eye shadow. The Ultrabland Facial Cleanser from Lush turned out to be it, and I have used it every day for three years now. It is always with me on my travels, as it is all the facial cleanser I need in one little box! It is thick and creamy containing oils, honey, and beeswax and smells delicious. After use, my skin feels soft and nourished.

Each box lasts for a long time as you only need a little bit to get rid of the mascara and makeup each evening. Just put a little bit Ultrabland on your finger and rub it on your eyes and face (do not put water on your face first). Rinse off with a cloth soaked in lukewarm water, and voila all the makeup is gone in a blink!

6. Enzymion Facial Moisturiser

I used to get oily skin on my forehead, nose, and chin, but not anymore after I found the Enzymion Facial Moisturiser.

It is my number one face product, and I use it both morning and evening. It has fixed all my facial issues I used to have when traveling as I usually ended up with dry, oily and acne facial skin.

The moisturizer is long lasting since it is pretty thick, so only a little bit is enough to cover your whole face.

7. Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub

You know when you travel a lot and are constantly on the move, the stress piles up and you don`t have the time or energy to take care of your skin properly. Well, this happens to me quite often, and the Ocean Salt Scrub has been a life saver for me several times. It makes the skin feel exfoliated and hydrated at the same time, and my skin glows afterward! And the best of all, it can be used all over your body, so it is again perfect for traveling since it is a 2-in-1 product for your whole body. I even use it on my feets. The smell is super good and smells of lime and coconut oil.

8. Enchanted Eye Cream

Since I love the Enzymion facial cream so much, I just had to try out the Enchanted Eye Cream. I have to admit; I got a little disappointed. It does not feel like it gives my eyes anything, no moisture. So I have now cut this product out, and it is no longer a part of my toiletries when traveling.

9. T´eo Solid Deodorant

Lush T`eo Solid Deodorant

Lush T`eo Solid Deodorant

Liquid deodorants have always been a hassle and always end up leaking in my toiletries. So I simply had to try one of Lush` solid deodorant, and my choice fell on the T`eo.

I love the color of this deodorant; the white against the blue decorated with dry purple flowers. It is soooo cute, plus the deodorant smells awesome of lime and lemongrass.

I must admit, however, that it is not as effective as liquid ones when traveling in a tropical climate like South-East Asia. At least not when hiking in Sri Lanka like we did. It felt like I had no deodorant on at all! 🙂 It works well when traveling in lesser tropical climate, like Europe and USA, or when you can step in and out of air condition, but not when hiking in the jungle.

10. The Guv´ner Powder Deodorant

Since the T`eo did not work for me in tropical climates where we like to travel, I decided to try out Lush` strongest deodorant, the Guv`ner Deodorant with Lavender and charcoals. It sure is effective, and it does stop the sweating, but the smell is just too masculine for me.

11. Shaving Cream

Lush Prince Shaving Cream

Lush Prince Shaving Cream

Both me and Espen have tried two of Lush`shaving creams; the Prince and the Five O`Clock Whistle.

They both leave the skin moisturized, and none of us get red spots after the shaving. But both creams are very thick, and they stick a bit too much to the blades of the shaver making it difficult to rinse off, and the shaving takes like forever since the blades get regularly blocked.

12. Dream Cream Hand + Body Lotion

Before heading to Sri Lanka this February, I knew I had to bring a large bottle of after sun or body lotion as we would spend most of our time at the beach. This time my chose fell on the Dream Cream Hand and Body Lotion, that way I did not have to bring an extra hand cream.

Dream Cream is Lush number one best-seller when it comes to body lotion, but I must admit I got a little disappointed. It does not get absorbed into the skin as quickly as I like, making the skin feeling sticky long after you have put on the body lotion. Also, the smell was getting on my nerves towards the end of the trip. It was just too much of it.

Lush Is Environmental Friendly

Lush not only have good products, but they also use environmentally friendly and ecologically grown ingredients in their product. Their products are fresh and hand-made, and each of the pots has a sticker on it saying who made this, when, and the expiry date. This is why I love their products.

All the pots (the black plastic ones) are made from 100% recycled plastic. And Lush has a policy that they use as little plastic in their packing as possible. So when buying a solid deodorant or a solid bar, they will wrap it in a brown paper bag and not plastic.

Lush do not use animal testing on their products either.

Conclusion

My favorite Lush products that keep coming with me on my travels over and over again are:

I sometimes bring along the Prince Shaving Cream, as well as the T`eo Solid Deodorant if I`m not going hiking in the tropics.

Maria buying Lush Products in Kyoto

This is how happy I was after finding a Lush shop in Kyoto!

5 reasons why the Solid Shampoo Bar from Lush is my favorite product and is with me on all my trips:

  1. It is lighter than liquid shampoo bottles
  2. No more exploding shampoo bottles during flights
  3. It is so easy to use and work wonders on my hair (just rub the bar in wet hair, and it immediately lathers)
  4. It is ECO-friendly (saving the earth from more plastic bottles)
  5. It is long-lasting

And the best part of Lush is that they have shops all over the world, so there is never an issue of re-stocking when your favorite product runs out!
